Now that we are in the midst of the McDonald's Experiment and you probably don't want to hit up the drive-thru on the way home, I thought I would offer up one of the most simple, delicious recipes for turkey burgers. You could probably even make these in the amount of time it would take you to drive to McDonald's, get your "burger" and drive back home. And I must admit, right out of the gate these look WAY more appetizing than that Big Mac, so appetizing that there won't be any left to experiment with. ;-)
Easy Turkey Patties
Ingredients:
1 pound ground turkey (grass-fed ground beef works well too!)
1/2 tsp sea salt
2 tbsp hemp seeds
2 tbsp rolled oats (I like to grind mine in the blender)
1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
dash of liquid smoke (optional)
freshly ground pepper to taste
1/2 tsp avocado oil
Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients in large bowl. Mix thoroughly.
2. Shape into 4 patties and chill in fridge until ready to cook.
3. Heat grill to high (approx 450°).
4. Brush top of patties with thin layer of avocado oil. (this prevents them from sticking to the grill)
5. Place patties on grill approx. 4" from heat source. Cook for 4 minutes.
6. Flip patties and cook for an additional 4 minutes or until well done (internal temp of 165°)
7. Enjoy on a bun or bunless.
Note: the key to making a delicious turkey burger is to NOT overcook it. After the 8 minute mark, I always pull one burger and cut it in 1/2, if the raw pink is gone from the middle I pull them all from the fire.
